Reminder: Worldwake Release Tomorrow!

Hey everybody, just wanted to post a quick reminder that because of a combination of epic level snow and fail plowing, we had to reschedule last weekend’s Worldwake release party to TOMORROW! (February 13th)

To answer some of the questions I’ve gotten in the past week about it:

YES, we DO have the release cards.
YES, we DO have Worldwake (that’s kinda the point, isn’t it?)
YES, Mike will be there to judge all day, and he expects you ALL to show up, or send a doctor’s note.

Here’s the schedule:

12pm: Registration for ALL events begins
2pm: Two Headed Giant Sealed BEGINS $35 per team
6pm: Main event Sealed BEGINS $30

$10 Drafts to follow as timing allows =) I’m sure we’ll be doing at least one, we usually do two Hope to see you there!

Worldwake Release!

We had a lot of fun with the Pre-Release and our Alara special event last week! Thanks to everyone who came out and played!
Our Worldwake Release event is this coming Saturday, Feb 6th- Here are all the details! Also look out for random door prizes given throughout the day! =)

Worldwake Pre-Release and Release info

Worldwake Pre-Release THIS SATURDAY! January 30th
We will have an EXTREMELY limited number of spots open for this pre-release so please make sure to get here early to secure your spot. Due to a clerical error by the DCI we will only have spots for 12-18 players MAX. Also the promo cards for this pre-release will be handed out next week.
4pm Sealed Event STARTS $30
We will be doing a special 4 pack Shards of Alara draft event following the Main sealed event. This special event is only $20 and will use one Shards of Alara block premium foil pack and one pack of each of the Alara block. There will be a monster size rare draft following the event including all the rares and ALL the foils cracked.

Great Type 4 Tournament

Just thought I’d post the winners and the prizes for tonight’s Type 4 special event. Congratulations to all! Glad to see everyone too =) Keep in mind these prizes were for a $5 a promo card entry fee. Okay, here’s the results:

Magic 2010 Wrapup

Had a great time at today’s Magic2010 release events. Six teams competing in Two-Headed Giant, 12 players for the Sealed main event and then 8 more for a draft after that, the store was the place to be!

Many players (new and old) had questions about the rules for magic, so I decided I would share my sources for the rules used at our (and most) events.

The rules for all Magic: The Gathering events are written by a group called the DCI (Duelist’s Convocation International), made up of the game developers, players, and judges.

There are several important (and complex) documents to read to know ALL of the rules of the game, and there are some very basic, fairly simple (in comparison) ones that we use every day to play. The most basic rules can be found in the Basic Rulebook (pdf), these can be used to run most games. When playing at higher levels or with more complex interactions, players should refer to the Comprehensive Rules (links to DCI Rules page so you can get the latest version).

The Comprehensive Rules are exactly that, the COMPLETE rules to the game. Every rule for every keyword and mechanic ever placed in the game. It is a dauntingly technical and complex document, not designed to be read through like the Basic Rulebook, but referred to in specific situations as neccessary.

Magic 2010 brought a fairly large update to the core rules of the game, which has remained largely unchanged for more than 10 years. You should check out the illustrated description of the changes, and then the detailed information [2] [3] [4].

If all that information isn’t enough to confuse you and make you really glad you don’t have to judge, here’s some more! Every event has to follow not only the rules of the game as shown above, but also the Tournament Rules which apply on top of all of those!

Makes me really glad I don’t have to judge these thi… oh wait.

*facepalm*

Magic 2010 Release

After a very successful Pre-Release last week it is now time for an awesome Release this week. We may be drafting M2010 on Friday evening but our Main event will be on Saturday. Here’s a schedule of all the festivities-

12pm- Registration for all events begins

2pm- Two-headed Giant Sealed Starts $35 (for the team)

6pm- Main Event: Sealed starts $30

There will be open dueling entry available throughout the day and Drafting will follow the main event as product allows. There will not be any TV’s set up for play during today’s events. Please feel free to email us with any questions.
